Races...

Mileage Update:
Saturday (Rained All Day)
Sunday (Rained All Day)
Monday 3.3 miles
Tuesday 3 miles

Well, I am happy that the rain took a break last night and this morning long enough to get some miles in. I am really loving walking Luke, and I think next week I'll start running "regularly"... I don't plan to run every single day to begin with, my thought is to walk everyday (still 3 miles) and maybe two days a week add in some jogging (1-2 miles). I don't want to stress my body and I am still heavier now than I was pre-baby, so I do not want to kill my joints by trying to run too much. I would rather walk, lose some weight, tone up, get some muscle back, start lifting weights again, and gradually get back into decent cardiovascular shape.

I will say though, there is a half marathon right here in my own backyard pretty much towards the end of May... and I am highly considering doing it. Even if I walk/jog the entire thing... for some reason I just REALLY want to do it!!! *Okay, so I just looked it up, it is on Saturday May 21st (perfect, that way I can still go to Church on Sunday). I also just wrote out a training program to get me through the next four weeks until the race. Now, this will be a slow half marathon, I'm not going to be setting a PB or anything. I'll probably see how training goes and plan on doing something like run 4 minutes, walk 1 minute, or run a mile walk a quarter of a mile, or something of the sort. I will plan on taking Luke with me in the stroller... I will just make sure I feed him and change his diaper right before the race start that way he won't have to be in there forever needing a diaper change or anything. After a couple of weeks I should be able to predict my race time, hopefully I can do the race in about 2.5 hours. Not sure at all though!

Anyway, this weekend is the OKC Memorial Marathon... I am SO excited! Luke and I are doing the 5K!!! I can not wait! We will be going to the race expo (one of my favorite things!!!) on Saturday, and the race is on Sunday... I absolutely can't wait! Plus, it will be a great weekend to see some of my friends in the city that I don't get to see very often! WOOHOO!!!

Well, I'm gonna go clean things up in the house... Have a great day! <3 AJ

Mom and AJ @ Will Rogers Memorial 5K

I just started blogging again and already I'm falling behind...

Mileage Update:
Sunday 3 miles
Monday Pushups, Situps, Side Planks (No Walk)
Tuesday 3.25 miles

I think I am so out of the habit of blogging that I have a hard time switching from keeping a journal (pen and paper) and typing!! I have always been a journal-er, and I will continue to keep that, but it is hard to get in the habit of typing again... Maybe because it feels like I'm putting a lot of myself out there, I don't know... which I have facebook and twitter, but blogging seems more personal!

Anyway, I have recently figured out how to subscribe to people's blogs that use WordPress, and things like that, so I am getting a little more familiar with blogger, and also just more in the habit of reading blogs...

I have not done very much today, my hamstrings are pretty sore, mainly my left one, and I can't imagine them being sore from doing pushups, situps, and side planks yesterday... I think it's from the hour and a half I spent working in the flowerbeds yesterday! I feel ridiculously out of shape... but I have a beautiful baby boy, so now I just have to work hard at getting back into shape!

I can't think of anything worthy of blogging right now, so rather than rambling, I'm going to go catch up on some other reading... I'll report back tomorrow :)

Walking, Cookies...

This morning @ Strollin' Moms I did 3.11 miles. (The group stopped at 1.8 miles, but I told my friend Katy I wanted to get at least three in, so she came along and we kept walking!). Tomorrow she and I and another friend of hers are going to meet on Riverside, walk 2 miles, eat lunch, then walk 2 more miles. I'm pumped. I am going to walk at least 3 miles everyday this week... then next week I'll increase it to four miles a day. (When I increase it to four miles a day that means I may walk twice a day on some days rather than four miles at a time everyday... I don't want to burn Luke out already!)

Anyway, tomorrow is also my Momma's birthday! So tomorrow when she gets off work my brother and Dad are going to meet me here at my house and we are going to take her out to eat dinner. (She doesn't know this!) I ordered her a cookie cake from this AMAZING place today called Barbee's Cookies... Truly, delicious! (We will have to walk extra!!)

The entire week is looking great... Oh, also today, I planted flowers outside for about an hour. My flowerbeds are no where near what I would like them to be... (When I lived in Tahlequah, they were perfect, I had worked so hard on them for so long... but now in Tulsa, they just need a lotttttt of attention!!!) I'll start working on them more often, I just want them to be perfect NOW! :) Patience...

Well, I'm going to go check on my little man.

Loving the post-baby walks... While I was pregnant, I picked up a book called Run Like a Mother (I actually bought it when I was 14 weeks pregnant, in Denver running a half marathon), so while waiting in the airport on my way home I started reading it, and started crying during the first chapter!!! I don't think it was necessarily the pregnancy hormones, I think it was the way running makes me think about life and friendships. Of course at that point I had no idea how my workouts would change, or how I would no longer be able to play in a volleyball league, softball league, and basketball league, all at the same time... Even planning my race schedule is completely different now; I have to really consider the weather, the time, how far away it is, whether or not it's a good distance to push Luke through, etc. Anyway, I knew all along that I wanted to get back to running and working out as soon as possible post delivery. I didn't know that Fleet Feet would be starting the perfect program for me just two weeks out though! Last week was our first week of Strollin' Moms... So these were my distances for that: Tuesday 1.96 miles, Thursday 2.39 miles. I borrowed someone's stroller for that, but then Luke's stroller came in so Saturday we did 1.5 miles, Sunday 3 miles, and Monday 3 miles... I absolutely love our stroller time together! I hope in the future he will come to love exercise, fitness, sports, etc. For now, I think the best way to get him to enjoy those things is to show him how much I enjoy them. I hope I can always be a good example to him in so many things in life, but leading a healthy lifestyle is definitely one of the most important to me!

This Saturday Luke and I have our first 5K (in Claremore, OK) Will Rogers Memorial 5K. I have done this 5K before, and it's a pretty nice course it goes through a nature preserve, so I'm sure I'll have to snap a picture or two on my phone (especially since we aren't trying to set any personal bests quite yet!). Also, we are registered for the OKC Memorial Marathon 5K on Sunday May 1st! I'm so excited about that race in particular because we are going to the race expo on Saturday, and Berry will be meeting us in the city to spend the night downtown, so it will also be our first family night away from home with our little Luke!!

Anyway, I am really excited about all of the exciting things coming up. I have about 5 more weeks of maternity leave, so I plan to use it wisely and soak up every minute with this amazing gift from God!

Baby, Walking, Love

Luke Justus Winn...

Tomorrow Luke will be 3 weeks old... I still can't believe what a miracle he is! He is such a good baby, I feel so incredibly blessed. I love him so much and I am thoroughly enjoying my time off work with him. Don't get me wrong, I love my job, and I always say I have the best job on earth, but I think being Luke's Mom has taken over the best job on earth, and my job as Intramural Director and Instructor is now #2!

This week we started a "Strollin' Moms" program at Fleet Feet here in Tulsa. It is on Tuesday/Thursday mornings, and I LOVE IT! I just happened to be in the store last weekend and Michelle (the leader) told me about it, and I'm so glad she did! I wish it was more than just two days a week!! I borrowed a stroller this week from two different girls, but Luke's stroller came in today, so I can't wait to take him for a walk in it tomorrow! (Really I can't wait to start running again, but I'm going to take it a little easy at this point!) The leader of the walking group, Emily, has a blog, and took a picture of the group today to post on her blog... so I thought I would start blogging again... (Which I have already tried once, and of course it didn't go over well, b/c to me this isn't as easy as Xanga, the blog I used to have, but... I'll try again!!)

I'm looking forward to the journey as a Mom, and finding my way back to fitness post baby... I have to beat Luke's Dad :)

<3 AJ
