Do the same thing...

This is an excerpt from one of Kristin Armstrong's blogs...

Do the same thing you have always done and get the same things you have always gotten.

We parent the same way and expect more from our kids. We put the same old energy into our marriage and expect it to be more fulfilling. Or if we're single, we continue in our same old routine and wonder why we never meet anyone new. We work the same hours doing the same things and thinking the same thoughts and wonder why we aren't promoted. We go to the same places all the time and expect to be inspired. We eat the same things and wonder why we weigh the same and have the same lack of energy. We read, watch, and listen to the same kinds of things and wonder why we don't feel more creative. We do the same activities all the time and wonder why they aren't as fun. We get mad or frustrated by the same stuff and the same people, without ever concluding that perhaps we are the common denominator in that equation. We do the same workout, run the same routes, and wonder why we are stuck in a fitness and morale plateau. We live and love and give in the same way and wonder why we never grow.

Do you see traces of this in your life? I know I do. If we recognize it, maybe that is the first step toward stepping out? Maybe it's time to change it up, people.

Do the same thing you have always done and get the same things you have always gotten.

Miles, Moods, & Memories...

Well, I created this blog at least a week ago, and although I have been on vacation, I just haven't sat down long enough to type any thoughts. Where do I even begin... I could go on and on about what has been going on in the past year, but I'll save you the reading and just start with recent times.

First off, I am on week 2 of my 3 week vacation. Best decision I have ever made. I normally just don't take off work very much. Maybe a day or two here or there for a race, but typically, I'm just there all the time. I'm not even going anywhere like the beach or the mountains, but just being off is very nice. Though you may be thinking that since I'm off I'm sleeping in and being lazy, but not really. I woke up this morning at 5:45 and went to swim 20 laps at 6AM. Then went back to the gym later to lift and do abs. Good times. Also, yesterday, I completed a Duathlon (5K Run, 24K Bike, 5K Run) ... and still walked 4 miles last night with my friend Amber. Good times. I found out today I got 3rd in my age group out of 13 people. I'm good with that. Considering I didn't know until the day before the race that the run distances had gone up since last time I did that "Du"... (last time it was just 2 mile runs on either end of the 24K bike).

Anyway, it was a great weekend, I got to see Chelsee, Brooke, and Melissa. Schedules didn't work out with Tab, but I'm going back to the city this coming weekend for a basketball tournament and we are bound and determined to get together!!! Mel was at the finish line and I was SOOOOO excited to see her. We were talking about the last time we saw each other and SADLY we think it was Little Rock 2008. That's flipping ridiculous. She is one of my best friends. It makes me sad, but we caught up right where we left off.

On my drive home Chels and I were talking on the phone about friendships and how we all get so busy and it's so hard. People have lives, and everyone is just as busy as the next person, but I want to do my best to be more involved in my close friends lives. Chels, Brooke, Mel, Tab, four of my absolute closest friends. In all honesty I feel like they will be four of my closest friends for life. At one point in time it has been years between the time that I have seen each of these girls, but I know they are always there. They know me, they know all of my faults, and they still accept me, and that is hard to come by.

I just made a list of races that I want to do for the rest of the year, and let me tell you it is long and a variety of distances! I'm very motivated right now and I think the vacation is just what I have needed to focus very hard on my goals for the year... More to come later on goals, dreams, and LIVESTRONG.
